Our Tatu project, formerly known Artemis, is a groundbreaking initiative that leverages context-appropriate Artificial Intelligence to gather high-quality data in the Global South, bridging the gap where conventional tools have fallen short. Tatu embodies the convergence of people, AI, and plants, serving as a vital link between research, innovation, and tangible impact. Our multi-disciplinary team of over 30 experts in product development, Machine Learning, field operations, user design, and scaling is primarily focused on revolutionizing crop breeding to accelerate the development of varieties better adapted to climate change, emerging diseases, and evolving consumer demands.
Position
We are seeking a highly dedicated and proactive National Consultant, Client Engagement, Support and Adoption Coordinator, to serve as the pivotal central point of contact between our clients – the users of our innovative Ona and Sikia platforms – and the dynamic Tatu team. This role is crucial for ensuring the successful adoption, effective utilization, and continuous improvement of our AI-powered agricultural solutions across diverse field conditions.

Salary & Benefits
This consultancy offers a competitive contract value of USD 16,000 for the 8-month full-time engagement. As a consultancy role, traditional employee benefits packages are not provided. The compensation is structured to reward expertise and impact in a nationally recruited capacity.

The total compensation for this 8-month full-time consultancy is USD 16,000, disbursed in structured installments tied to the successful completion of key deliverables.
Job Description
In this impactful role, you will be instrumental in driving the adoption and successful deployment of Tatu’s cutting-edge products: Ona and Sikia. Ona, a smartphone-based computer vision phenotyping tool developed with Gates Foundation support and now scaling with Google.org, enables rapid, high-precision data collection from breeding plots. Sikia, rooted in advanced NLP research, utilizes Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) and Vision-Language Models (VLMs) to capture conversational and visual farm data, generating crucial insights into farmer preferences and crop performance.
Your leadership will ensure seamless client engagement, robust technical support, and the strategic integration of these tools into critical agricultural workflows. You will manage diverse client relationships across East Africa and beyond, from pilot phases in Tanzania and Uganda (beans, cowpea, sorghum, rice) to future expansions, ensuring our technology translates into real-world impact for our partners, including TARI, IITA, CIMMYT, CIP, Colorado State University, Google Research, Mineral, and the London School of Economics. This position demands a blend of technical understanding, exceptional communication, and a strategic mindset to foster widespread adoption and drive market development for innovations funded by the Gates Foundation.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage comprehensive client engagement strategies across all field campaigns and pilots.
- Refine and rigorously apply the Ona Client Engagement Checklist to maintain consistent service quality.
- Provide clear and concise weekly status updates to both clients and the internal Tatu team.
- Act as the dedicated single point of contact for clients, ensuring responsive communication and support.
- Coordinate efficient issue resolution by liaising directly with relevant Tatu technical teams.
- Collaborate closely with breeding teams to ensure seamless integration of Tatu workflows into their operations.
- Systematically document client feedback, lessons learned, and best practices from all engagements.
- Proactively monitor and provide dedicated support for Sikia pilots, addressing challenges and optimizing performance.
- Design and establish robust internal customer support workflows, encompassing intake, triage, escalation, tracking, follow-up, and closure.
- Develop comprehensive frameworks, templates, and service standards to ensure consistent and high-quality support delivery.
- Track and analyze customer support performance across all client engagements, identifying trends and areas for improvement.
- Propose and implement innovative improvements to enhance customer service systems and client satisfaction.
- Represent Tatu effectively with diverse stakeholders and strategic partners, advocating for our mission and technology.
- Support market validation efforts and strategic scoping for new product applications and regions.
- Conduct targeted outreach activities and meticulously document client interest and potential use cases.
- Accurately assess various client segments and identify their specific needs and application scenarios.
- Conduct thorough cost assessments for client engagement, customer service operations, and system maintenance.
- Develop a detailed cost framework, including staff time, travel, hardware/software, and communication expenses.
- Provide strategic budgeting and service model recommendations to optimize resource allocation and ensure sustainability.
Required Skills & Experience
- Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Sciences, Business Development, Education/Adult Learning, or a closely related technical field.
- Minimum of 3 years of demonstrated experience in stakeholder coordination, client monitoring, and technology adoption, preferably within agricultural research or development contexts.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in customer support, service delivery, capacity development, or adult learning initiatives.
Additional Technical Skills
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, capable of building strong relationships with diverse stakeholders.
- Proven proficiency in utilizing coordination tools such as checklists, trackers, and shared drives for efficient project management.
- Highly organized with strong problem-solving abilities, capable of navigating complex challenges in field conditions.
- Demonstrated ability to track performance metrics and develop robust service frameworks.
Preferred Qualifications
- Significant experience in field coordination or the deployment and management of digital tools is a distinct advantage.
